"I don't think there are any other ways how to get back, my liege, than to either brave the gas, or go up the river. As you can walk on walls, I would leave the raft in your hands, if you will, and wait for you on the other side."
I run back through the gas trap room, hoping for the best:

That leaves me at 2 hp. I will rest for a little while to cough and retch and regain hp, then as I'm waiting for Henry and sandra to catch up, I will take a quick peak down the eastern passage.

Sandra is alarmed at her king's poor luck, and is glad he's alive. She's still willing to examine the hidden passage, and will hopefully have better luck. Whatever thing was beyond the gap is a concern. Sandra has a pickaxe, and will attempt to widen the gap.

As Sandra is working with the pickaxe, I lean close to her and whisper: "Listen, old friend, are we sure it is wise to be transporting this sentient painting back to our home base? She has promised us nothing, and seems likely to kill us in a gruesome way if we ever slight her. I say we leave her where she lies."

red_kangaroo((I'm presuming you meant the west path, so far unexplored, and I also see you've popped into the other thread)) 7Q45QBH0, "Sandra"As you swing away at the tunnel and send rocks clattering out into the hall, you hear a grumbling sound coming from deeper within, followed by a loud ticking-chugging sound. Do you keep mining?

Sandra whispers under her breath, "I agree. This painting, if I am not mistaken, consumes that which comes in contact with it. Best to conjure a good reason to leave her behind for a moment and never return. Perhaps set her facing the wall."
Sandra hears the ticking-chugging sound and decides to keep mining, bracing to use the pickaxe in close combat.

(Well, she's now on a makeshift raft next to the river stairs. We could just leave her there, or maybe give her a little push...)

"In for a saucer, in for a plate, as we say in the porcelain kingdom." Henry XIV holds his hammer in one hand and his Blasphemous Grenade in the other, ready to attack if something hostile emerges from the tunnel that Sandra is excavating.
((I'll be damned if I'm going to die before I get to throw my Blasphemous Grenade!))

There's a clunk and a rumble and a roar, and as Sandra's pick breaks through, a blinding light flashes on from the other side. With a clank-clank-clank a large boxy machine the size of an end-table comes thundering through over the pile of rubble. It's adorned with dozens of panels which are flipped open to reveal a wide assortment of menacing... tools? There are spinning things and smashing things and something that looks like an incredibly advanced hammer, complete with magazine full of nails. It glares it's baleful red eye at the lot of you, and prepares to charge at Sandra!
What do all of you do? Be aware that getting close to it will put you in range of any number of wicked implements.

How does the machine move? Does it have legs? She's trying to work out a gambit with her ethereal string, and if it's moving on legs it might be possible to trip it up. Also, if she understood the mapping right, that hidden tunnel should lead back in the direction of Cell Block Zero.
Can I see a skull rating on this?

No skulls. It's got sturdy metal slats rumbling underneath it's boxy body ((tank treads)) and is very low to the ground, it's probably not going to be easy to tip over.

Then Sandra will drop her pickaxe and shoot at the machine with her bow. She will try to keep her distance, but isn't willing to run through the spore room just yet.
Would this be a Dex roll?

Nope! All attacks just automatically hit, so roll damage!

You say there are panels flipped open, does that mean there are compartments in it that I could drop a grenade into? If so, I will wait until its attention is on Sandra, then run up and drop the Blasphemous Grenade in somewhere it will lodge. Then yell for Sandra to get away. The Blasphemous Grenade looks like the Holy Hand Grenade from Monty Python, except black and red with an inverted crucifix on top.

There are quite a few small ones, the larger panels have larger implements sticking out of it. The biggest one would fit the entire grenade, but has a deadly-looking spinning sawblade attachment whirring menacingly. If you try and throw the grenade there's a solid chance it will be batted away, but you could definitely run up and stick it in yourself. You'd just be in very close range with the very dangerous blade...
If you're going to jam it in yourself, make a DEX check along with it! Otherwise, you can just throw and hope for the best.

"Heresy in the hole!" Henry cries, and tries his best to slam dunk the grenade in the the hole.

Awesome! I don't know how much damage the grenade deals (or even if it deals damage, really) so feel free to roll it for me to keep the game flowing if you want to.

As King, you're normally expected to be stately and reserved, but clearly you've had some kind of combat training in your past. What was it, and with what weapon / Fighting Stance?
The machine lumbers towards Sandra, an arrow plinking into it's metal hide with a ping, but no sign of any real harm. It huffs and puffs and clatters down the rubble, thrashing implements glinting in the torchlight. Then the king is right there, lobbing the Blasphemy Grenade into the open panel just as the beast rears back to strike with it's buzzing sawblade. Henry grabs Sandra and spins away with her in tow, safely beyond the range of the creature, with the hem of your cloak trimmed by the spinning wheel with a bzzzt.
Then, there's a thud as the grenade "explodes".
The machine spins it's tracks, but is lifted helplessly into the air by an unseen force. It twists and turns, lashing out and suddenly panicked. You can see it's metal skin turn to rust and dust in an eye-blink, sucked away into a shadowy maw. Then, there's a gulp, and the machine is no more.
What do you do? Sandra, how do you feel being rescued in turn by the king?

Sandra is stunned. If it hadn't been for the King's quick thinking ,she would surely have been sawed apart.
"What happened? My king, is that machine gone?"

"I believe it is gone for good. I bought these grenades from a witch some time ago. I also have an anti-gravity grenade... that one is self-explanatory... and a 'frognade'... I can't tell if that will transform enemies into frogs, or spawn frogs where it lands. In any case..." Henry XIV dusts himself off. "We are safe for now."
Henry would like to rest and recover his HP. In the meantime he will peer down the passageway that Sandra excavated - is it passable now, or does it still require a DEX check to get through?

Between the excavation from Sandra and the smashing progress of the machine, it's very passable now. Are you sure you wish to wait and rest here? There could be other things of the same nature down that hole, and you wouldn't want them to come upon you while you were at ease.

Hmm, if we go back to the riverbank where we left the painting, would we be safe from random encounters? If so then I'll go there. If not, I may as well rest here where I at least have a few different exits.

Yes, that seems safe enough. I'll just say you burn through half a torch after all this romping about. Lady seems quite content to just look at the river passing. What do you do next?

Sandra will want to explore the passage. Would it be possible to light an arrow on fire and shoot it down the passage to see what might be down there? Do we expect the passage to be straight?

Sounds like a good plan to me. I will follow Sandra down the passage, but first I would like to speak to Lady again.
"Greetings, my Lady. I trust you are comfortable? We are doing our best to relocate you to a more pleasant position, but we have run into some, er, difficulties owing to a lack of rope. There is a sentient vending machine nearby that can sell us some rope, but unfortunately we have no money. I don't suppose you know where we might acquire some coins in this dismal place?"

Lady turns to look at you. "A real shame, that. I suppose I can loan you a few coins, if that would suit you?" You feel a shiver run down your porcelain spine. You get the feeling this is a bad idea.
The passage isn't that long, or that straight. Waving the torch around, you can see it twist and turn, but it appears to be empty apart from a lingering scent of brimstone.

"Er, no, on second thought, I'm sure we can scrape something together on our own..."
I'll back away swiftly and go to explore the winding passage with Sandra.

It's much easier the second time around. A moment later, and you are in a cramped and noxious-smelling little chamber, all odd-proportions and rough stone. You can see a large tank of some machine that has recently been patched, dribbling a little orange goop out of long glass (?) pipes that stretch up somewhere. You can also see four large cables that come from somewhere further along, to a little machine that is shiny and new and bolted on, where everything else is black with corrosion.
What do you do? Asking detailed questions about the machine will likely give more detailed answers, but might require you getting up close and personal with it...

Does the orange goop seem similar to the stuff that sprayed onto us in the trap room? And are the pipes maybe leading toward that room?
Also, are there any exits or is this a dead end?
