catdragonThe frogs croak mournfully at you as you leave Cell Block Zero. Clambering down the roots of Saint Seymour, you can see where huge blocks of stone have been shattered by the roots, some of them still held together by the brown filaments. The roots spread out comfortably, so you have plenty of space to crawl down, down into the depths, all the way down to Floor -1. You come out in a haphazard chamber, broken apart by falling stone and the roots of Seymour. Two chambers have been knocked together, there are five exits from this area: two north (one on the east side, one on the west), two south (ditto) and one straight west. The western half of this cavern has the remnants of an old campsite, thoroughly scavenged some time ago by the look of it..

Bogg would like to go due west.

West leads to a small chamber, you can see the dead-end of it ahead. Your torch also illuminates a pile of rags, dumped at the very back of the cave. Did they just... move? Weird.

Bogg drops all his weapons, leaving them all in the hallway. He then walks into the room, saying to the pile of rags "Who goes there?"
((I'm trying to use my ability Plucky Urchin (So long as you aren’t carrying any weapons, you can’t be killed by weapons unless you are specifically executed).))

((Good idea! I'll allow Plucky Urchin this time, especially since you are alone. You can more "reliably" use it by not carrying weapons with you at all.))
The pile of rags wriggles a bit more, and then a large rat pops it's head up! It's large, and seems to be wearing a collar. No, not a collar. Is that a necklace?
"Hey," it says, chewing on something. "How ya doing?"
Another rat pops up next to it, also chewing, then a third. They are about the size of small dogs.

"Ah yeah," says the rodent. "Whatcha wanna know? Tell you what though, free of charge, just a bit that way 'n over the river." he points north with a half-chopped tail. "There's a bugger wot lives in a box wrapped in chains. Don't piss i'm orf. Right narsty."
"An if ya go thattaway," he points to the south-east "For a fair bit, there's some plants wot like to eat ya. Real unsporting-like."
"Annn if you head around 'n about that way," pointing west, not through the dead-end but some other route "there used ta be some folks that was dead but still wanderin' around. Not any more, got all cut up by a wizard an 'is buddies. Might be sumthin' interesting? Maybe more folks that wis dead."

"You uh... you got any food?" says the rat.

"Oh yessss" say the rats, scurrying out of the pile of rags and pouring into the box. You've made three incredibly loyal companions (for now, until they get hungry again)
Where do you want to go next? The rats might have some more ideas, if you tell them what you are looking for.

"My fellows, do you know of any ways of securing power and escaping this dungeon?" Bogg's eyes glint with constrained rage and unhealed sorrow. Those bastards will pay for taking Mogg away from me." Also, do you like to eat bugs?"

"Straight to the chase huh?" says the rat. "Name's Mip. This is Bip, and that's Pip. Terry is around here somewhere, I dunno. Uh, power? Escape is up top, easy-as, but power is like, tricky you know? Maybe you can uh, sell yer soul to someone? Something like that? Lotta big demons and tiny gods round these parts."
"Bugs! Yes! We love bugs!" says Bip, or perhaps Pip.

Bogg promises a steady supply of bugs in exchange for a steady flow of information about the Endless Dungeon. How do the rats react?

"Oh yeah? You got a deal boss! Say, whaddaya wanna know about?"
The rats will scoop up their ragged rag-outfit and come with you wherever you go next. They look like a very small child in a threadbare hooded cloak doing bad cartwheels. Where do you want to go?

Not any more, got all cut up by a wizard an 'is buddies. Might be sumthin' interesting? Maybe more folks that wis dead." Bogg asks about this, because he didn't see any other western hallways. How does he get to the undead battle site and what are the dangers that will prevent him from going there?

"Uhhh..." the rats look at each other briefly. "We went the other way but it might be hard for ya cos you know, yer big an all that. There's a big damn hole in the way, we went up the wall around it." they point to the exit directly south. "Might be you'll need to find another way around. We can help scout for ya though!" The candied plums and bugs sure have made an impression.

Bogg would like to head southwest from the room of roots with Mip, Bip, and Pip. He leaves his weapons behind in a rough pile.

Leaving your weapons behind, you feel a certain weight lift in your mind. It's good to be free of such things. Your title "the Burdened One" seems less apt now, in the best of ways. ((Plucky Urchin: Activated fully))
Heading south, you move through a narrow square hallway almost exactly your height, the walls reinforced with slabs of different stone every so often. It opens into a circular room, matching the circular well built into the centre of the room. The rope of the well has been worn through at some point, only a tattered fragment remains from the top bar.
Exploring around a little more, Mip leads you down the only other exit from the room, another chamber that leads directly west. It ends in a sheer drop: another circular chamber, the same size as the well room, but seeming to lack... a floor. The drop extends down far beyond your torch can reach, this chamber has another exit to the west, and another straight south from here. "See buddy? We can scamper and scuttle cross the wall, you might have some trubble yeah?"

Could Bogg jump across the pit? What would I have to roll to successfully jump? Or, does Bogg know that this jump is obviously beyond his skill?

|
Post by Spwack on Jan 23, 2022 6:53:45 GMT
Probably not. If you got a really good run-up, and leapt with all your might, you might just barely... miss completely, smack into the wall, and fall to your death in the depths. Perhaps if you had a pole to vault with, or a grapple-hook you'd have a chance, but just running won't cut it.

Bogg tells his rat friends to wait there. He will return to Cell Block 0 and try to find a pole or grapple hook. Even if he can't find that, he will return with more bugs for the rats to eat.

"Sure thing boss!"
A bit of back-tracking and up the giant beanstalk will round out the encounter check: kn3WTgPn1d6
Encounter! Just as you're about to start climbing the beanstalk, you hear the sound of chittering and muttering coming from the north-eastern passage. Sounds like at least two voices, maybe three? What do you do? They are coming closer, but not quickly.1d6

Right, so you're hiding up the beanstalk, peeking down into the room below? You can't see much, but you can tell there are definitely three of them. You catch glimpses of ragged black hair, flaky white skin, wickedly curved claws clicking on the stone floor. They are humanoid, but not human. Their chittering language is slightly nauseating, but not so worrying as when they all stop moving, and one of the makes a big sniff, smelling the air. What do you do?

All right! Combat! Make a STR (or DEX) check, with advantage, to see how well the tackle goes. It's going to go well, this is to see how well.
Are you going for the kill? Are you punching and kicking, clawing and biting, what?

STR roll to sky-tackle.

1d20+1
Taking the higher of these rolls since I don't know how to do advantage with dice bot.
Punching and kicking, Bogg is going for the kill.1d20+1·1d20+1
