“There will be an occultum strip in it for each of you as payment for freeing the lady phykalla.”

((A full occultum coin is worth 10 platinum, which is worth 10 gold. These tiny strips are worth about 1 platinum each. Occultum is highly magic resistant, and can be used to create interesting artefacts by combining it with other materials))

((I wonder what happens to mind powers when you snort powdered occultum.))
"Very well, shall we free lady Phykalla, and then you will show us the way to the drow? Lead the way!"

I will go over to the metal box and open it revealing a metal ladder going down and descend.

54 Holy Bridge Subdues Civilization wakes in cell block zero groggily as if after a long sleep. They slowly stand up and take in the room. Their face is obscured by a red silk mask that's almost more of a hood. The mask is embroidered with all manner of occult symbols and has no clear holes but is knit in such a way that it doesn't obscure vision. Tall and quite lanky under the splint mail they wear they make their way to the table in the center of the room and briefly rifle through the papers on it trying to gain an understanding of where they are or how they got there. A merchant of enchanted odds and ends by trade, they had recently been robbed of most of their stock and they bitterly reach down to their magic bag to take inventory of what remains. Everything the thief had left behind is still there they observe. Now Holy bridge stays still for a moment and focuses trying to see if they sense any spirits in the room with them. ((if there are they'll attempt to interact with them, if not or afterwards they'll go and run there hands slowly over the glass face of the box))
((Anyway I could move an s and make my name 54 Holy Bridges Subdue Civilization, it makes more sense and might be less confusing))

Across from Dridges, a trio of pods open. From the center emerges an older man, mid-60s, with graying hair, a violin case, and a long overcoat. Besides them emerges a young man, early 20s, bent by the weight of an over-full backpack, and a steely-gazed woman brandishing a bardiche, in her late 30s.
"You there. The meditating one. Are you waiting for others to return, or will you join us in exploring this place?"?

Bridges jerks back noticing their surroundings as the trio emerge from the pods.
"Well met! I'm known as Bridges. I just found myself here a few moments ago. I have no clue where we are, do you? I'll gladly travel with you. Young man, you seem to be struggling with your burden, I may be able to assist with that. Oh, also, how does that box over there work?"

"Well met Bridges, you may call me Pops. I do not know where we are, but I sense it to be hostile- perhaps not this room, but this facility. It seems to me that this is a dungeon, and one delves in dungeons. Pay no mind to Porter- he is well used to burdens, and it is his duty to carry them. That box contains a ladder to another part of this dungeon I believe. And that strange other box looks to dispense items, though we do not carry any valuables to purchase such things with. Come with me- if you lack a weapon, you may have this blowgun (ranged, d6) in exchange for your service and obedience. Consider yourself drafted. Let us observe these maps, plan our route, and begin our delve."

"Ah okay. Pops, Porter" Bridges said nodding " and who is your third companion? The lady with the large weapon." Bridges pats themselves down double checking for something to defend themselves with " Nope don't seem to have a weapon, I'll take you up on that blowgun."Bridges approaches the table again and begins to study the map " You were saying we should plan a route, what direction are we branching out in?"

On top of the pile of weird notes, you can see a few hand-drawn maps that seem quite complete and usable, with Cell Block Zero in the middle of the Floor 0 map. Of other note in the corner of the room is an open grey metal box, with a ladder leading down into... not the floor, but into the box itself? Sergeant Toughmuffins wakes up with a start, the camo-painted vending machine propping up on stubby supports and bellows out: "ATTENNNNN-HUT! YOU LILY-LIVERED MAGGOTS BETTER GET IN LINE BEFORE YOU GET A LINE DRAWN ON YOUR LIFE! PRIVATES, IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE DOWN HERE, YOU'LL NEED TO DO BETTER THAN THAT! NOW, WHO IS YOUR COMMANDING OFFICER?!"

Bridges stands at attention and salutes the vending machine "Sir, yes sir! I'm unaware of who my commanding officer is or indeed if I'm enlisted in military service at all, Sir!"
Bridges casts a quick sideways glance at the other three, trying to read their reaction to the vending machines outburst.

Pops steps forwards, looking less than impressed. "I am responsible for these people. I am called Pops, and this is Bridges, Porter, and Blade. Who are you, strange green machine, and why do you speak with such confidence?"

"HURRUMPH." goes the Sergeant. He Hurrumphs with great skill and aplomb, particularly since he is a vending machine.
"Young lad, I am SERGEANT TOUGHMUFFINS, and you better NOT FORGET IT! I've been down and around these parts for donkey's years, and certainly horse years and perhaps even a camel! There's danger, then there's mortal danger, and you lot are all in the thick of it. I haven't died yet, so I suppose I've got a head start on each every one of ya..."

Bridges looks at the Sargeant and says, confused " We've died before? Is that why we're here? What is this place?"

A stout individual, named Bogg, falls out of one of the silver cages, dropped onto the floor like a sack of potatoes. Righting himself, Bogg dusted himself off and looked around Cell Block Zero. What does he see? If other characters are present, he tries to talk to them and join their delve.

Bridges turns around to face the new arrival. "Hello. I'm 54 Holy Bridges Subdue Civilization, but it might be easier to call me Bridges. Good to meet you, the others are named Pops, Porter and Blade. Uhhh this machine is called Sgt.Tuff Muffins, and as to where we are your guess is as good as mine. There's some maps on the table but none of them seem to indicate an exit to this place. Who are you?" Bridges extends a gloved hand.

We will gladly take any assistance you provide before we begin our delve."

Bridges: The vending machine doesn't have eyes, yet rolls them at you anyway. "No... what I meant, is that you're new here, and haven't died yet. I've been here for... decades, prob'ly, and haven't died even once. If you want to keep up with me, you'll have to stay sharp and pay attention to these sorta things! As for what this place is, it's a dungeon, innit?" Bogg: The stone room is lit by a large iron brazier, filled with blazing charcoal that casts eerily still shadows on the walls and the other metal cages. There are four exits to the room, to the North, South, East and West. On the table is a pile of maps and notes detailing the surrounding rooms, especially this one. Pops: "Well for starters, if you head North and take the first left, you'll either die instantly, or die slowly in complete AGONY. How's that for a tip?" the vending machine seems offended by your tone. He also gives a rattle, and a selection of weapons and equipment, along with price tags ((in copper pieces)) drops into view behind the glass screen: rapier (300), sling (15), bow (100), flask of oil (5 ea), bandages (5 ea), dagger (15)

Pops turns from the machine. "Right. Well, as none of your offerings are listed as free, I suppose we'll get going, if you've no more tips on avoiding death. Bridges, let's get going. Bogg, if you're going to be following us, stay quiet, pull your weight, and listen when I tell you something. We're headed out. South then south-east, through the frog fields mapping this area marked as wet and damp."
Arranging their two bondsmen, Pops nods in the direction of the other two adventurers and walks out the south exit.

I watch the dungeon box suspiciously as we climb out of it. "Say, worm-friend, why was Lady Phykalla imprisoned in that box, anyway? I wonder whether we have upset any powers that locked her there."
"Anyway, does anyone need a pick-me-up?"
I have a cask of healing potion, so if anybody's hurt, we can fix that. Also if Phykalla is still unconscious, I will try to pour a dose of healing potion down her throat.

“There was a war in there? Or something… she got caught in the middle. Not sure what happened next. I know she was one of the most powerful forces in the dungeon and I look forward to her help.”
I am injured but plan to rest and eat a ration for healing.
Once phykalla is healed we can have her haul the box to the beholder, then we can fill it with treasure if people want.

Jax: Healing potions are best saved for emergency healing in-combat, since you can easily heal by taking a break for an hour or so in CB0. That said, a dose would definitely fix whatever strangeness has happened to Phykalla.
Wingilbear: So, you now have access to two characters! If Phykalla was more ordinary, I would say she could become equivalent to a hireling, but she is a cut above. With that in mind, you can choose between your two characters for each delve.

I pour a dose of healing potion down Phykalla's throat, and then sit down and have my last ration of food. "If we're thinking of where to go next, may I propose a supply run of sorts? I must confess that our complete lack of palatable food makes me... troubled."
I also try to wring the oily goop out of my clothes. "And maybe we could find a hot bath, if possible."
"Say, Sergeant Toughmuffins, how does it look with the lantern I have pre-paid?"

Supply run… food is hard to come by but we could do the drow, kobolds, or try to find a wandering merchant. Each comes with their own advantages and disadvantages. Which I can go into if you wish.
Phykalla on the other hand is a chef and can make some interesting dishes with what they have.
Spwack phykalla would like to retrieve the treasure from the tank of scorpions they filled with anti magic goo. It has been a while and thus they should be drowned and it would be safe to extract the stuff.

Was the tank taken into CB0, or is it still in the original chamber?
There's a bonk and a clonk, and Toughmuffins drops a heavily wrapped and padded package out of the slot. It's tied in dark twine that is weirdly... sticky? The package does indeed contain an iron bullseye lantern.

It is still in the original spot, someone saw it there recently untouched and full of the anti magic goo, labeled with a skull and crossbones
