What I primarily like is a way to see in the darkness, given that torches are a limiting resource. Food and water seem otherwise covered. oooo, also a way to talk or interact with other people favorably would be useful. I'd also really like it if the goblins found something they wanted, which I am not quite sure out.
I would like the hex bow and the swords identified. As well as the stones! I'll definitely take the potions. Lotta loot to diivy out! I'll modify my character sheet with all the stuff so I can keep track of it. Wingii, if you want any of the potions from the seller you are welcome to them! I'm not super greedy. I just want to unite people and get out of here. I'll pay for all the things to be identified or whatever.

I mostly want money and the Catherine wand, I think we should identify everything then divvy up from there. The tome also may be well suited to my spellcasting but idk.

That's 70sp off my credit (tassels are silver, right?). To identify the rest, it should be 220sp, so 110sp from my credit and then 110sp in coins. "Yes, please identify all of the items we brought. Also, would you know of someone knowledgeable and/or appreciative of gemstones? Apart from the gem people, that is." I'm assuming Blerble takes both wands? And I would like to take the bandoleer of daggers. "Sergeant Toughmuffins! May I ask you for some armour? Ideally an armoured jacket, cloak, top hat, belt, gloves and boots, in bright-black leather and silk, if possible." BTW, I will mark off the torch we've burned.
Spwack With the neckalce on, can I regain hp normally?

Henry XIV wanders into Cell Block Zero, eyes widening as he takes in the piles of loot strewn across the floor.
"Hail, Jaxudyzad! And, erm, others with whom I am not acquainted. Where did you come across this most impressive haul?"

Are we still charged for the professor’s identification of a magical object being him freaking out about it and not telling us what it does?

Blerbles: "Perhaps such a thing would work! If it does, please let me know. If you don't come back, I'll assume that it, uh, doesn't."
"Do you not value my wisdom in matters that should be best left alone?! I should not like to give a loyal customer such as yourself information that would almost certainly lead to your demise, and with no reward to balance the risk. Unless you would have me rattle off every fact and foible, and send you on your way with a surfeit of information but no knowledge? I am a Professor, not some dumb machine that vomits up what you ask for, instead of teaching you what you need!"
((Yes. 20sp for identification is your current rate, or half if the Professor doesn't know the whole deal))
Jax: I would count that as 90sp off, (two wands, the boot, the amulet, and half on the urn). The Professor doesn't handle potions, you'll have to feed a third of a potion to One-Hit and they will identify it. Or, you can give it a sniff! ((and yes, silver tassels are the same as silver pieces are the same as silver shillings))
"The Drow are known for their love of beautiful things, as are the dwarves, though I do not know of any dwarven settlement rich enough to indulge heavily in such things. And indeed, the gem-folk would certainly be willing to trade, were it not for their current blockade."
Sarge says: "Woah now! I'm not so sure I can get such fancy gear, 'specially not down here. I get what I'm given and I sell what I can, but - maybe? I'll see what I can do for ya."
You can indeed, your wrists are fine and you don't suffer the injury as all, but it doesn't fix itself either.
Other items being identified:
"This is a Scroll of Squarify and a Scroll of Confusion. The first will make several ((d6)) targets take the shape of a square, the second makes it difficult to differentiate between friend or foe. Or foe or floor. Or floor or door. Or anything and anything else, if I may be so bold."
"This tome is a grimoire, and one of considerable puissance. I'm glad you brought it to me first, for it contains a number of potent lock-curses. From what I can see, it is bound to the touch of an owner, and shan't be amenable without their flesh, blood, bone or hair. A poor choice of lock, if I may say so. since it encourages murder. These locks are often weakened if their owner's body is completely destroyed or long distant, and these curses seem to be well-kept."
"These stones are, well, one stone. That happens to be in two places at once. Anything you do to the first well be done to the second, and vice-versa. An interesting little trinket."
"The bow has a warrior spirit within it, a malignant and hungry one at that. I shouldn't advise the use of it, but if one is in desperate need for strength in battle and doesn't mind the cost, it would be an easy matter to feed it parts of a soul and hope for the best."
"This orb is, in essence, another wand. It - ow! Ow, get it off! It - ow. It has a nasty bite. I think it's an ice spell? Ow, that hurt. I apologise for the hasty review, but I shall still be charging you the full price for that."
Hurricane: Indeed, light is a tough one to handle. Darkvision is a potent treasure and something that hasn't been discovered yet. Blerbles is using a powerful and long-lasting lamp that they got from the gem-people. Perhaps you could buy a several lanterns from Sergeant Toughmuffins, and equip a bunch of goblins with them? Otherwise, the Professor could try and find some scrolls for you. Maybe a translating spell, a light spell, that sort of thing?

((I also just did an edit to answer your previous question))
The scrolls on sale are (prices in cp): - Scroll of Banish Smell (100) - Scroll of Wound Octopus (100) (deals damage based on the number of limbs the target has) - Scroll of Channel Lightning (150) - Scroll of Darkness (150) - Scroll of Astral Bait (150) - Scroll of Teleportation (3000) (You actually see the price on this one tick up rapidly from 300, reaching 5000 before dropping back down to 3000) [WARNING: This scroll cannot be used to directly escape the dungeon, it can only teleport to places within the dungeon]
Sergeant: - Rapier (300) - Cutlass (150) - Heavy chisel (20) - Crowbar (30) - 10ft pole (20) - Lantern oil (10 per vial)

“Telling us what that wand is would certainly lead to our demise?”
“Do the protections on that tome protect it from damage or machines that extract magic?”
How large is a gold coin? How large is a pile of 500 gold coins?
”What would the scroll of wound octopus do to something like a centipede?”

"Well - it is perhaps quite likely. Having information about it would likely lead you to use it, and using it would likely lead to your deaths. Or worse."
"From damage? No. From extractor machines? Well, mostly. The extractor machine would have to try and 'read' the book, in a way, as it performed the extraction. This would inflict the curses upon the machine, and not on you. It would certainly be a safer method of reviewing the contents of the book, but would almost certainly damage the machine considerably."
Pretty... big? I figure all of the chests in CB0 would be more than enough room to store it all.
"Mmmm it would be quite effective. But the short length of the limbs would reduce the resonance somewhat... it wouldn't explode as you might presume, but it would certainly be direly wounded and probably killed. A creature that had a hundred human arms or legs would be obliterated, and the resulting vortex would - have an unpredictable effect? Likely a destructive one as well."
"It's a well-known but poorly understood law of magic, that minor spells cast on exceptionally well-suited subjects can have unpredictable outcomes. Something to do with the phase alignment surpassing a critical point and excess mana being leeched rapidly from an unknown source, or so say the recent theories. These theories are often published posthumously, with the author acting as a final data point in the experiment, hence the lack of on-going research."

What does astral bait do? Tell me more about the teleportation. What sort of limitations does it have on who or what it can teleport? Can it teleport something in the dungeon to you? Could it teleport me to a person in the dungeon without me knowing where they are?
I would like to divvy up the treasure (give some of it to the communal pile because we took rope and such from there earlier) then head out on the river to search for the beholder (hopefully dead already) and just mess around on the water. What do you all think?
Do any of us owe on the identification?

"Your Majesty! It is good to see you again. Let me introduce my companions - Blerble, the scion of the Worm Queen, and brave Sir Hurricane. Together, we have fought in a great battle and bested a beholder that lived just one floor below here, driving it away from its lair and claiming much from its hoard.
What have you discovered on your ventures through the dungeon?" Spwack How much for a lantern? Also wingilbear if you are after more magic, there are some powerful runes on the back of the painting of the Lady. We saw them when we were moving her here to CB0, but had nobody knowledgeable about magic to decipher them. I would like to go and try get the crown of psychic prowess.

I have all these potions so I won't be getting any of the scrolls.
I shall be getting a ton of laterns and oil! 3 lanterns and as much oil as I can hold given its so cheap (well, it is now for us). I'll also take a crowbar , chisel, and some rope if its available.
I will bow deeply to Henry XIV "Greetings! It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. This place is full of people that's for sure! It as my companion here has described. Pray, tell me, what are you the majesty of? I am quite familiar with the ways of courts."
Hmm, if we can help the lady I would be behind that 100%.
I will turn to Wizard "What of your kin? Would others of them wish to join us? Join our cause? I hope we can get as many people as possible out of this place."

Blerbles: Astral Bait summons ghosts, supernatural creatures, and spells towards it, though they aren’t forced to stay. Teleport requires you to focus on the exact location of whatever it is that is moving, as well as it’s destination. A “Summon” spell might work better in terms of moving specific things to you.
And I have yet to decide on the mysterious papers! One is a treasure map, giving directions to a hidden cache on floor +3. The other two... I’m sure I can come up with things, but I’m happy to take suggestions as well.
Jax: Sergeant doesn’t have any lanterns at the moment, but could order in a bunch for 40 each, as many as you wanted.
Hurricane: Rope can also be ordered, 30 each for a big coil, like 50ft. Wizzard sort of shrugs. “Goblin do what goblin want. Me want follow you, good eats, learn good too. Bring big feast, shinies? Goblin follow feast-bringer yes yes. Join cause...? Maybe... but definitely follow good.” He seems almost exhausted after saying all of those words in a row.

"Good to meet you, Hurricane! I am King Henry XIV, Ruler of the Porcelain Doppelgangers. Or at least I was, until I was ambushed and teleported here. I suppose someone else may have claimed my throne by now, but I still have my crown."
Henry begins swaggering around, looking at the loot. "The beholder, eh? You defeated it? You must know that it was I who blinded the beast. By rights I should be entitled to some share of the spoils, should I not?"
(OOC: Henry is being greedy. You're welcome to tell him to sod off if you like.)

“Ah so king you will help me chase it down and defeat it huh? To gain your share of the treasure?”
I was hoping it would be that treasure map left behind of floor -3, ah well.
I will buy the slay octopus spell scroll and the sandwich bomb marking off the 2 gold coins it costs me. One hit can keep the change.
I would like to ask the professor if a beholders magic dispelling eye would have any effect on a ghost, additionally I will ask the vending machines what information they can give me on the name thief and/or the city at the end of the river. For instance is there some sort of log of what they have purchased from vending machines?

"Hrm, yes, quite. I was thinking more in the way of immediate compensation, but never mind... the treasure is yours to do with as you see fit." Henry wanders off to the minecart room, muttering to himself something about the relative social stations of monarchs and worms.
Spwack How much gold is lying around CB0 now? Is there enough to scribe a spell onto myself, and if so, would 16 silver be enough to buy that gold from Blerbles & co? What is the exact effect of inscribing a spell? Would it mean I can just cast the spell whenever I like?
Also, I will talk to the Professor and offer to sell him information about a secret passage between floors 0 and +1. Will that be worth anything to him? bluewolf should share in the spoils of that since we found it together.

Did I say +3? I must have meant -3... ((though I don't recall if there were any details about it))
Re: Ghosts - "Well, the most honest answer I can give you my dear worm, is 'it depends'. Some ghosts are memories embedded in the fabric of the world, others are conjurations that bind a spirit. If the latter, the conjurations are would be broken by the dread gaze of the Beholder, and the spirit would return to rest. Does that answer your questions?"
Re: The Namethief and the River City - "Such information would not come cheap. I can make some inquiries if you would like, how much would you be willing to spend?"
Re: Gold and flesh scribing - I should think 1.6 gold coins would be enough to scribe, say, a hand and a wrist? Gold wire can be drawn very thin, but spells take a lot of scribing. And the effect of the spell strongly depends on the spell itself and were it is scribed. For instance, scribing a Fireball spell on your arm wouldn't allow you to throw fireballs at will, but you would be able to conjure fire in your hand.
Re: Secret passages - I actually can't recall if anyone has specifically sold that route to the Professor. The area around CB0 and the floors directly above and below it have been pretty well explored. However, if you were to discuss your travels in general, the Professor would be very interested in your description of the axe ((since that definitely has not been explored until now.
((Also bluewolf has left the forums for now, but I'll keep that in mind))
I presume you'd be looking to purchase a scroll for that information? Unfortunately the Professor does have some limitations on how it can sell stocked goods, in that the currency needs to actively be spent in order for the deal to work. But (as we've seen) the Professor is certainly a vital source of information!
((I can't recall exactly which group of players carted the Professor back to this spot, but it was clearly a very worth-while investment))

So I have a couple things. I've updated my inventory best I can. Please look over my character sheet and tell me if anything seems out of place.
You mentioned a cuirass and helmet, there is a lot going on in these scenes at the moment and that escaped me. Can I equip that as armor? If so, what is the mechanical benefit?
As for loot, I would like the following from the pile: - The scroll of squarity
- The linked stones - The hex bow (it would be nice to not always have to charge into battle)
By my estimation that leaves these unclaimed: - the ice orb - the grimoire (though blerble expressed desire for it) - the bad wand - the scroll of confusion - the seven league boot - the four unidentified potions (I would take these to be identified)
As for future plans, hell yeah to going up river, lets make sure we finish this now that we have had rest.
As for suggestions for the miscellanious papers, I'd suggest something on the history of the lady of the painting. For something random, I'd suggest papers on the art of 3 dimensional origami - folding real life objects to take up smaller spaces (in part to address the storage issue).

I will smile genuinely at Wizard's words, they were actually touching, for a goblin. "I will do my best to live up to that."
As King Henry goes to leave I will offer him 5 gold coins. My usual jovial expression will sour as he lays out his claim to the treasure: "I will give these to you but only if you drop that talk of 'right' to things. We all have found ourselves in an unfortunate circumstance here, you might do well to forgo the attitude that crown has taught you."
Additionally, I wanted the professor to look at the two swords I had picked up to see if they were magical at all or if they are just cool looking. As you described them: "One of them is weirdly plain, made out of a single piece of metal but carved into the shape and texture of an ordinary sword. The handle has the feel of leather-wrapped wood, but it's all iron. The other has a golden-ish sheen that you think is probably polished bronze, with a spiraling line etched from the tip to the hilt."
"It seems you faith in me was not misplaced Professor! Pray tell, does any of these recovered items interest you? You gave me advice for free about the nature of the cell room and I wish to repay that. Perhaps I can tell you the color of the beholders eye, I seem to recall you mentioned being interested in knowledge and not things."
Finally, I want to order 50ft of rope and get Herald a proper horn if I can between these shopkeeps

Let’s just have one hit identify the potions. Them losing 1/3 seems hard to imagine in a game sense but is well worth it to know exactly what they do. I can’t really imagine using an unidentified potion unless in dire emergencies and even then it usually bites you in the butt. I also don’t believe there is an easy way to identify potions that would be cheaper than having one hit (the magic potion vending machine) do it.
The wand we apparently can’t use and the spell tome seems like a lot of work for a random reward so I am thinking about getting rid of them by giving them to the worm queen (my patron who likes to destroy things)

wingilbearThe map seems to point towards an area far to the south of the web on floor -3 ((any area that hasn’t been generated yet, surprise surprise)) The Professor seems delighted "Hmm hmm! I will do my best to use these funds as best I can. The process may be slow, but I’ll see what can be done." One Hit: "Yeah I know it’s a hefty price, but what can you do? If I don’t keep the lights on I’ll run out of stock, and where would you be then?" One Hit pokes out a little metal straw and sucks down a dose from each potion. They are: Potion of False Boredom - The more interesting something is, the more bored you are of it Potion of Savagery - Makes it harder to use metal equipment and arcane spells, but makes unarmed attacks, simple weapons and shamanistic spells better Potion of Fear Nickel - “Huh. I think this might be a botched potion”. Makes the drinker deathly afraid of a nickel object The last potion you don’t have to spend a dose, as soon as you start to unwind the cap a jet of air starts streaming out of it! This is Bottled Air. It makes you wonder if there are other, more dangerous gaseous potions...

frankiesteinYour inventory looks just fine to me. How are you carrying all of those potions? A helmet and a cuirass each add +1 to your max HP, but take up an inventory slot each. The next question is usually "how many inventory slots do I have?" And honestly, I haven't yet figured out how to do inv slots in Finders Keepers yet! We will all find out as we go along. Professor tells you that the swords aren't magical. "Let me think… a pair of Seven League Boots would be a mighty fine addition to my collection, I'd be happy to make a sizeable purchase for such an artefact. And you are welcome to it! A smattering of guidance early in a delvers career can make quite a difference down the track, and I've certainly turned a tidy profit from you all as well." Make sure to note the things that you have ordered ((and possibly bug the vending machines if they don't seem to remember, because I certainly won't)). Herald shakes his head. "Me shout good. GOOD! Horn for blowing is ok-ing, but horn from beastie? Horn from beastie tell a story of Hurricane and Herald! SHOUT!" XP? No sirree! Finders Keepers doesn’t have any non-diegetic way of leveling up. You find better equipment, purchase spells, learn new things about the world and yourselves, and hopefully survive a little longer. Look at Hurricane now compared to before - more HP, more swords, goblin follows, scrolls and magic items and powerful allies. ((I’d take that over +1 level any day)) Although XP does exist, it’s only used to improve a new character that is generated. So, after a character dies or retires, normally.

"Thank you, Sergeant! Shall I pay you an advance on the armour now, or shell I check back with you once I'm back here again?"
I will also commision a lantern and buy 3 flasks of oil (70 cp), plus a scroll of darkness (150 cp). Would it also be possible to commision some form of healing potion from One Hit Wonders and some curse-removal from the Professor? If no one is taking the ice orb, I wouldn't mind having it. That should leave the inventory of all items left in CB0 as follows, for future reference: - Empty chest(s?) - Improvised rust remover (fine sand) - Metal collar - Random shitty books (incorrect almanac, novel with pic of Fabio on cover, textbook with bad construction advice i.e. wondrous properties of asbestos, book on trees but every description is the same) - Muriel the Magic Mirror - Small black cube from the gundead tower - Fishing rod - Shiny locket - Greeble - 3 gizmos - Pinning bit - Medium ticky thing - Spool of fine wire - Communal alchemy table - Minidungeon-in-a-box - Halberd - Sword - Axe - 2 shields - Some "interesting documents" - A treasure map, giving directions to a hidden cache on floor -3 - Spell grimoire, cursed - An evil wand - Scroll of Confusion - Potion of False Boredom - Potion of Savagery - Potion of Fear Nickel - Bottled Air Assuming frankiestein took the armour (not on your sheet yet). We also each get a third of the gems.
Have I forgotten anything? I will edit the list to have everything in one place.
garmr I can lend you some more gold for scribing your body if you'd like, I have more than enough right now. "Blerble, Hurricane, Your Majesty, I have to excuse myself for a little while. I need to try and get the psionic crown, to see if it can help me, strengthen me, make me better! Every time I use my abilities, I feel like I'm splashing about on the shore of an incredibly deep sea of untapped potential that is so tantalizingly close, yet always just barely out of my reach. That feeling is driving me mad! But if I can procure the crown I'm sure that I will... I don't know. I'm sure that something will happen. Anyway, I will return here once I succeed and will try to find and rejoin you as soon as possible. Good luck to you for now!" ((Unless someone wants to join me, of course, here.))
