The droplets land on the pseudopod, but it doesn't seem to react at all. It definitely does react to the lit torch, by reaching out and grabbing it! There's a slightly sizzle as the flame licks at it, are you going to drop the torch, or try keep ahold?

It looks incredibly thick and gloopy. Terrance could quite easily get trapped.

It didn't seem to really react to anything until the torch. Maybe I could give it the torch and grab some of the coins, and you can then pull me out if it tries to grab me?

Up to you. Yeah I can run back up.

Okay then.
I drop the torch and reach for the coins. If the ooze harms my hand on touch, I will immediately back up and out, otherwise I will grab the coins and tell Blerble to help me climb out.

The torch lands on the surface of the sludge, wobbles for a minute, and gets sucked down. You can already see the wood start to splinter and dissolve, the charred oil-cloth unwinding and flaking into nothing. Before you have time to reconsider, the pseudopod lashes out and wraps around your outstretched arm! If you want to pull-away, you’ll need to make a Strength check and beat 10. You also take 1d4 acid damage.

"Not a good idea!" I yell and draw back, trying to climb up again.

You're free, and back on the ledge, and only slightly digested. The sludge down below trembles and thrashes. It seems like you've gotten it's attention...

retreat for now. Terrance will hold the lantern and I will cover you. When the light fades I will use my ioun stone to turn darkness to sludge over the creature having the sludge fall down on it and I will use tremorsense to follow my compatriot.

Have we seen any other openings in the cliff face as we climbed, or do we need to go explore downwards? Can we climb around the gorge to the other side, or does the cliff continue to the distance?

You are both out back on the cliff-face. No other openings that you've seen, but you can spend some time investigating to check if you haven't missed any out in the darkness. As far as you can tell, the other side of the gorge doesn't have the same inviting ledges, and just generally looks a lot smoother.

Yes, let's do that. I would also like to descend a bit to see if any tunnels open beneath us.
Does Blerble know any useable teleporter codes?

Down the cliff then? It's much easier going down than going up, since you can just make hair-raising but somewhat safe drop from ledge to ledge. The cliff-face and the opposing wall come closer and closer together and narrow down to a single tunnel that you can scramble-slide back down to a very welcome horizontal tunnel.
The tunnel goes a short distance before bulging out into a hemispherical cave. The floor is completely flat, and seems to be carved with a massive sleeping face. There's an exit to the north, but there doesn't seem to be any way past unless you want to tread on the carved face.

"Hello?"

There's no response, but you hear a very, very faint hissing/whistling coming from the mouth of the face.

tremor sense reveal any movement? considering how we can test the waters without offending.

Post by Spwack on Jul 6, 2020 8:54:09 GMT
Mm no movement of the sort that tremor-sense would pick up. No doubt if something started to happen, you'd definitely pick up on it.

I'm pretty small. I will leave the red ooze I am riding on behind for the moment and crawl over to investigate the whistling a bit more. "wait a moment lil red."

As you slide closer to the face on the floor, you lean in close and can hear the whistling is definitely coming from the mouth of the face on the floor. However, something about it just doesn't look quite right. And the hissing/whistling doesn't seem like breathing, there's no intake, just continually quiet noise.

I'll cross the room, too.
"I am really sorry if you are talking to us, but we don't understand you and don't know if you can sense us, or even if you're even you. So please don't take it the wrong way if we are stepping on your face," I say as I run across the room, trying to avoid the facial features if possible.

As soon as you step onto the face proper, the mouth an eyes open wide, and the hissing/buzzing reaches a frenzied intensity. Mixed within it are scraps of words and phrases, fading in and out of the general buzz: "########FEAR NOT THE SUBTLE ONE FOR#######POWER#########WHEN THE TIME COMES IT#######GLOBULOUS######NEVER AGAIN FOR ALL TIME########"
However, you can easily run around the edge of the face and avoid the eyes (rolling and frenzied), mouth (snarling) and nose (flared). Heading north and turning right, the tunnel wides out into a tiny pebbly riverbank, with the river flowing fast and smooth ahead. You can see another very similar-looking riverbank on the opposite side of the river, with a tunnel heading back "inside". Other than that, it's just water and stone.
What do you do?

Post by wingilbear on Jul 8, 2020 3:02:05 GMT
can we walk up or down the riverbank? how do the pebbles and stones look?
|
|
|
Post by red_kangaroo on Jul 8, 2020 6:14:18 GMT
In which direction does the river flow? Does it look deep?
If we want to cross it, we could tie ourselves together once more, with one staying on the riverbank to catch the other one if they get swept by the water.

Not very far at all, it's only a tiny beach before you get to solid vertical walls that are the norm for this river. It's flowing south, and looks rather deep and fast, if very smooth.
... Pebbly? Stony? Round? What kind of details are you looking for?
