((I hope not. We're also both at 0 hp.)) "Seventeen," I breathe out. "Everything is all right, Blerble. Everything is wonderful." I can hear you. I can think clearly again! Thank you so much, kind stranger! I can't even express my gratitude for whatever you did to take away the pain.
I always thought it was the pain that gave my thoughts their sharpness, but now that it's gone, my mind feels finally free to soar.
Dear sir or madam or creature of indeterminate gender, please, who are you? How may I ever repay you?((I will relay anything the stranger says to Blerble, in creepy monotone. ))

You are very welcome, foundling. Life is pain and suffering, but only if we do not help each other. As it was above, so it is below. We did not help you out of any need for repayment, but if you should meet me again and I do not remember you, you must remember for me. To your friend, the wormling. Please give my greetings to your mother, tell her I apologise for my lapse in contact. She will understand, I hope. I am sorry, I can stay no long&$, you #ust look f(@ me in th@ p*ac^ w$!(* %^# !*(@#)......
The last section of the thought fades into meaningless static, and the blue glow from the end of the tunnel fades.
Jaxudyzad, you now have proper telekinesis! It can be used in sunlight (if that ever becomes an issue), and is as strong and precise as a drunken lumberjack. It still deals d4 damage with just flailing, but if you were to pick something up, perhaps more.

"I do not know and I think they are gone now, whoever they were. Perhaps your mother would know them, should you have any means of contacting her, as they suggested they knew her?" I will investigate the end of the tunnel, to see if it would offer a good resting place. ((Also yay! ))

Heading down to the end of the tunnel, you arrive at a small circular chamber. Every surface is etched with still-warm scrawls and scratches. It's an odd experience being on the inside of a such a space, but there are no exits other than the way you came in, so it's very secure. Will you rest here for a time?

Yeah let’s rest here. I will take first watch. What do you do to give the campsite the feeling of home? I picture gathering around the gem city lantern like it is a campfire and it being rather merry with our little band with us and lil red the slime, Terrance the mage hand, scout the spider scouting crystal spider robot, the soot sprites that accompany me that fly around in a hollow orange orb, And my living acid sword the telthidian Lance. I will be sharing and Eating a honeyed quetzal worm meat ration.

"I wish I had some tea."
I will share a live lizard ration ("Try biting it's head off, it's a delicacy, I'm telling you! Oh, don't mind how it wriggles, that's normal.") and stories about the world above, about the Sun and other things my poor dungeon-born friend could never see ("Oh yes, a giant ball of fire is constantly hanging above your head. You get used to it.").

Yeah hearing about crazy stuff outside i would feign disinterest but probably be super interested. “You could Pray to Saint Seymour, the patron saint of wrestling, depression, and fine tea.” Spwack I think we are ready for the night shift

((You have so many damn minions it's insane )) Between all of your various critters and your very defensible position, I'll just roll one encounter check. This could potentially have gone up to three if you were in a dangerous location. JVd8gSWC1d6No change, and you were probably putting the lamp on the lowest setting. You've both eaten, rested for an unknowable amount of time, and feel a whole lot better about the situation in general. Jaxudyzad, how do you feel about your new capabilities and what occured? And also, where are you planning on going next? Wandering around is a time-honoured (and in this case, highly profitable) activity, but are you thinking of heading anywhere in particular? 1d6

I feel rather conflicted. I have been given these powers against my will and the memory of the excruciating experimentation will probably stay with me forever. However, I already had the time to find out how useful a tool my mind can be, plus now that I don't feel like screaming in pain whenever I try to focus, I think I might grow to think of the powers as of a blessing. Power is addictive, after all. It's encouraging to find others like me in this place, especially friendly others, though I wish we could've talked for longer and I think both me and Blerble are intrigued by the mention of the worm queen. If Blerble would like to, we could even go visit his mother? Otherwise there are still more paths to explore, or I've heard rumours of an elven settlement somewhere in these halls which I'd like to see, except I don't have the faintest clue where to look for it. By the way, on my watch I try to experiment with my evolved mind a bit. I try juggling several rocks at once, to see if I can and if I loose precision/strength with multiple objects held. I also try to "touch" the walls with my telekinesis. Can I feel that there is an object too big to move? Could I feel out my surroundings in darkness or around a corner? And given how the stranger spoke to me: Blerble? Blerble!((Should I stop munchkining my power? ))

I know of drow settlements we could visit otherwise I think perhaps heading to see the worm queen is Probably the best bet.

Let's go to her, then.

Post by Spwack on Sept 20, 2020 10:04:46 GMT
Jaxudyzad, you definitely lose a lot of precision trying to hold multiple objects. If you have them together in a clump it's relatively easy, but holding them separately is hard, and moving more than two at once seems beyond you... for now. That might be caused by the lack of "feedback" you get from your new abilities, it's difficult to know that anything is happening without looking, so it isn't useful in the dark. ((That is an excellent idea though, and it might be possible for you to learn that with practice))
With that, right now the two of you are in a cave at the end of a tunnel, quite a long way down. Where do you go?

Back the way we came to the room with the great hole in it. I want to approach that room extra cautiously in case the starfish is hanging around.

Crawling through the tunnel back to the hole room, you can't see any sign of the starfish. Which way from here, east to the webbing or south-west back to the arrow vending machine?

East to the webbing then down. We are heading back to the portal hopefully and if all goes well there is more to explore down there as well.

Down the webworks, along the small tunnels and back to the portal? I'll say that's about two encounter checks:

Your lamp is down another tick, but apart from that, all is quiet along the way.
The portal glows the same rippling purple. Where from here?1d6·1d6

Quite lucky! Do we wish to explore more quick in this area before we take the tele to the worm queen?

We can always return, I say we go see the worm queen and then decide.

Then we set the portal to 243 and in I go.

The portal shudders, collapses, and re-opens again. The purple veil slides over your skin, and your ears pop as you go up several floors in an instant.
Heading north and climbing the rope up to the hall above (I presume), the first thing you see are the large row of columns marching down either side of the chamber. The second thing you see is a greyish scorch mark right in the middle of the floor, a frozen shadow of, perhaps, a fallen humanoid figure holding up an arm in futile defence.
The third thing you see is a seated statue of an immense woman, headed by a split-open worm like a torrid flower.
"WELCOME HOME, MY SON. AND WHO IS THIS YOU HAVE BROUGHT TO VISIT ME?"

I bow deeply before the queen.
"Your Majesty! My most humble greetings to you. Please excuse my ignorance as I do not know whether it's customary to come bearing gifts, but this dungeon is very much a great unknown for me. How very delighted I am to meet you.
My name is Jaxudyzad, an acquaintance of your son. The dungeon brought us together by chance and then made us into fast friends, if I may say so, through the dangers and challenges it threw in our way."

"AN ACQUAINTANCE, YOU SAY? THEN THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE. WE TRULY LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES. THE TRAVELLER, ROAMING ONCE MORE. THE NAME-THIEF, LOOSE AGAIN. TELL ME, MY SON - HAVE YOU MADE ANY PROGRESS ON FREEING ME, YOUR QUEEN? WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE TO SEE THESE INTERESTING TIMES FOR MYSELF..."

"TRULY A SHAME. STILL, THERE ARE WORSE FATES FOR A WIZARD. I NEVER TRULY BELIEVED THAT OTHER ONE WOULD BE THE KEY, AND I TRUST YOU WILL FIND SOME OTHER WAY TO BREAK THIS CURSE OF MINE, MY DEAR SON. IS THERE ANYTHING I MAY DO FOR YOU TO EASE YOUR WAY?"((For those who are just tuning in, breaking the petrification curse on the Worm-Queen originally required a Stone-to-Flesh spell, 6 MD, basilisk gland extract and a barrel of refined holy water. Since MD no longer exist, the following link will hopefully help adjudicate what you'll need to reach a power level of six))

"I would be glad to offer my meagre powers to help set you free, Your Majesty, though I do not know much about magic nor this dungeon. Thinking of that, any advice on where to find magic or knowledge of magic which might be used to aid you would be of great help.
If I might dare to ask for a favour, Your Majesty, would you be willing to tell me more about the Traveller? Our chance meeting was fleeting yet it cured my mind and raised my spirit more than I would have ever dreamed. I would deeply wish to meet them again, if only to help them remember as they asked. Which also reminds me, would you happen to know about a place or a person who could teach me more about the arts of the mind? The Traveller had shown me a strange and exciting path and I think I would very much like to travel it as far as I will be able."
