What do I glean of their habits from the ruins.

((You know, I've forgotten quite a lot about Alchfrith since last Phykalla was roaming around. Visiting the Embers will definitely start a process of rekindling, but I'll need to go over some notes.))
As you check out the ruins of their village, you get a better feeling of how Drifter and his kind lived. There are stashes of carefully cultivated mushrooms beneath many of the huts, all of them dry and dead now. You think that many of them would have gone out foraging into the dungeon halls beyond to bring back enough food. Maybe some of them have eaten the same type of bird you've currently got cooking away. And of course, you recall the ash ghosts that often accompanied them. Ghosts don't need to eat after all, so they're not quite as much a drain on the community supplies...

They seemed to quite revere their dead using them in tandem with their daily living. Kind of a communal life with ancestors.
Hmmmmm didn’t really know much about alchfrith. Fire sorcerer terrorist, sorta in love with phykalla.
Do I see efforts to rebuild? I wonder if the spirits take hold of all of this ash in an effort to do something.

They certainly do, it seems to have worked pretty well for them. Well, up until the Name Thief of course.
You can't see any signs of rebuilding at all. No ghosts, no nothing. They seem to have fled with the rest of their people.
I seem to recall Alchfrith briefly controlling Phykalla in exchange for protecting her from flame spirits. I'll see what he ended up doing. In the meantime, you try writing in the incunabula. The pages absorb your words, they seem to slurp it up hungrily, pulling towards the spine of the book before disappearing.

I will spend a little time maybe glance at David a fair bit, sadly the fire has died out. Toss some of the fallen crossbows or other loot in the walking luggage and then head to the drow via the rope area going down and heading to the teleport to the area by the worm queen.
I can’t eat all of that bird and so will cut meat and bring cooked chicken steaks to the worms.

The walking luggage happily snaps it all up. David nods, he's happy watching over the site of the Great Flame for a while longer.
Wow, Phykalla really can get around the dungeon incredibly quickly! South, south, east past Flights of Fancy, east, up the webworks, encounter check: WKsL_0L21d6
South, through the narrow gap in the stone, past the bloodstains, through the purple portal up to Floor +1.
Queen of Worms: "My my, a sacrifice! You do spoil me so Phykalla, if I didn't know any better I would guess you were currying favour with a patron." You can tell she's joking.
Around the rim of the Abyss, then down the repaired lift, and then East, and you arrive at the gently gleaming staircase down to the Drow Hive.
Any thoughts? Plans? It's been a while since Phykalla was here.1d6

Got gems to spend and this might be a place to procure some ingredients.
I have a bunch of coin I think I am going to try and get a job and become an npc for awhile. Maybe I could get an apprenticeship with that sweet blacksmith that works on the moon milk or at a restaurant.

Cheese and crackers I forgot to free the rag person in the cage.
Phykalla is going for a no prisoners sorta thing.

((Oh whoops that is definitely my fault. Will Blerble go and do that, or do you want to backtrack and do it right now?))
That sounds like an excellent semi-retirement plan! As you walk down the staircase into the Drow City, you see a number of pale toga-clad slaves turn to follow you, many of them sliding away to take message of your arrival further in. You are quickly met by a trio of drow, two men and one woman. You think. You're pretty sure.
"Welcome friend! It is so good to see you. It has been many moons and stars since we last spoke. Are you well? The walls whispered of your coming, but we thought not to believe anything but our eyes."

Yeah I suppose we should back track quick, helping them out shouldn’t take long because of cicerone and they would be nice to have in the back pocket.

Woof finding rag person on the map is a nightmare.
Aha! They are just north of the door of death underneath the hidden passageway from the throne room by the hall of many rooms. Seems there might be a river close which I would prefer using to travel to them with the ghost ship but if that doesn’t work I could brave the giant flying axe

((You're the Cicerone, and I'm pretty sure you asked to go there some time ago so...))
Some Time Earlier
You're sailing up and down the river on the Ghost Ship, pondering, as only a storm giant can. As you look on the northern side of the river, you can see a spot where the otherwise smooth canal walls have crumbled and cracked. Waves slosh in and out, the break is almost exactly parallel to the waterline. There is some kind of egress through there, but it would be a challenging engineering task. Maybe a crew of dwarves could partially dam the river but...
What do you want to do? Your Cicerone senses are tingling, for sure.

Does the ghost ship speak verbally? I can't exactly recall.
You receive a message from the ship, one way or another: It can deposit you inside the mass of rubble and water, but you'll be underwater and buried alive. If anyone could survive that, it'd be Phykalla, but that's still a very risky method.

This is a point of interest on my way to the rag person? Some new entrance/exit to the river that is mostly rubble? Perhaps I will contact the kobolds to work on it with their engineering teams. I will ignore it for now. (I have a way I could open it but I feel it would damage the ship which isn’t worth it) I could use the over engineered pick to explode the rubble all in one go on a drive by.
Additionally before I free the rag person when I am close to it I will use the nose for trouble to see if they are super dangerous. Although the demon was fine.

This is a point of interest. You mentioned that there might have been a river close by, this is where your Cicerone senses led you. You can try blast your way through with the pickaxe, or go the long way round via the Floating Axe.
The demon was indeed fine. I wonder, do Phykalla's sense detect "dangerous for her", or "dangerous for normal people"?

Dangerous For her I imagine
I will go the “long way” which isn’t super long because cicerone.

Indeed. Back to CB0, along the minecarts, south past the fountain, west at the lichen spiral, south at the magic barrier, through the large doors, past the throne room (your black armour vibrates gently as you pass the location where the previous owner "died"), through the secret passage behind the throne, and down the stairs back to Floor 0. Phew!
North from there, you take the right-hand passage marked "DEATH". In the room before you lies the Axe, lying meekly on the stone floor. What do you do?

Danger Sense is tickling the back of your nose, making you want to sneeze very slightly. This thing is desperate to slice your head from your shoulders, and as soon as you get in range, it's going to go you.

It rises up the moment you enter the room, absolutely no pretence attempted. Are you willing to take some very minor wear on your shield and armour, or do you want to roll something to get through (at a slightly higher risk)?

This axe has been thirsting for blood ever since it was awoken. You catch it on the shield, bat it away with a gauntlet and step around it to outside the room. It swings, wild and angry, and then goes back to lie on the floor in a sulk.
In the next room, you hear the clank of a chain and the squeak of rusty metal. The ragged figure sits, slumped in the cage, thin limbs poking through the iron bars, idly rocking back and forth. It notices you, and perks up immediately. "Oh! It is big one! Oh my! This is unpreceprecedented! Hallo! Come close so I see you good? Is dark."

I will break the lock

The pickaxe flashes but once, splitting through the padlock like a cold knife through glass. The ragged creature pulls all its arms and legs back in and huddles back in the cage with a shriek. "AIEEEE! Please don't eat the me!"

"Umm. Umm. No tasty. Not tasty no. Very very umm, bitter like lemon?"
The creature slowly climbs out of the cage, looking at you warily. Two red eyes burn deep within the rags.
"Thank... you?"
