You snaffle down some food and spend some time getting the feel back in your arm. It'll take a moment, so we will see what the encounter checks say: JRfLhS6J1d6'
While you are eating and relaxing (and keeping an eye on those boots) you hear something coming from up the tunnel. It goes thwap, bzzt, thwap, bzzt, thwap, bzzt. What do you do?1d6'

((Did eating rations do something for my current HP?))
I stand, move to an oblique angle away from the tunnel's mouth, away from the unknown roamer's line of sight. Big-ass axe firmly gripped with both hands. And I wait for whatever this is to show its face.

Since you rolled an encounter, I'd normally say that healing is interrupted, but since you are eating, I'll say you've healed to full just as the noise starts.
Thwap. Bzzt. Thwap. Bzzt. And from around the corner comes what looks like a cross between a large toad and a leather-bound book. What do you do? Neither the book, nor the toad look particular happy about the situation.

Panyrus takes another step back. First off, an attempt at communication: "Okaaay... So, what's *this* about?"

Thwap. Bzzt.

This one's not in a hostile mood towards others (meaning, me), at least. Or is it?
And another question: Can I get a glimpse of what the book part is about just by standing there and looking at it for a while?
If not, then I will get closer. 3 feet or so closer.

As you bend down to take a closer look at the writing, the frog-book tries to hop away, fails, flails, then boops you on the nose with a tiny bolt of lightning for 1 damage.

((I'd love to examine the book part of this creature, but I don't think I'd be able to do it without taking a considerable amount of lightning damage.))
I'll step back once more, then look for the mystery sack I found inside the transport pipe. The one that gives off a mystery magic aura, according to my Seventh Sense. I'd like to find out what's inside it now. Could be useful, could be more trouble, but eh.

You are correct.
In the sack are three things: A glass sphere full of weird coloured swirls. It looks relatively fragile, and you're thankful for the sackcloth swaddling it. A black sphere, made of some kind of rubbery material. A perfect silver sphere, flawless apart from a single line splitting it down the middle.

Can the silver sphere be opened? If so, I'd like to try and open it.

It feels like it should be able to, but you just can't. At least, not without breaking it. Perhaps it is locked somehow?

I'll pack my things and prepare to go into the tunnel. Anything there looking like it could hinder my advance right off the bat?

Are you trying to go around the frog-book? If so, nothing at all. It seems keen to hop past you as well.

Sweet. I'm crawling into it. What's this tunnel like inside?

Leaving the strange wall-ghost and bizarre frog-book behind, you duck under a small tunnel and end up in a... lavish throne-room? That's what it seems like at least, wooden floors, tapestries drape the walls, softly lit by torches in iron sconces along the pillars lining the hall. At the far end, where you'd expect the throne to be, is a bulky oak chest, dark with age, brass fittings and shiny lock glimmering in the torch-light.
What do you do? You haven't entered all the way into the room yet, so there might be things you haven't seen.

I'd like to get as good a look at the room as I can before entering it. If doing so *without* entering it is not possible, then I'd like to do it extra stealthily.

You do a sneaky duck-roll across the hall. Nothing seems to respond, but you can now see an exit halfway down the chat leading to the east.

Ducking through the door, you find yourself in a low corridor, you have to duck a little to avoid hitting your head. Walking down it, you get to about halfway to the door at the far end when you hear low, gruff voices:
Voice 1: "Look, I know, I know! It was a bad idea but we're all here now." Voice 2: "All? All here? We left the camp behind down there! They need us!" V1: "Well, then we'll just have to find them again. It's not the first time this has happened." V2: "Easy for you to say, you just have to-" V1: "Have to wait? Say what you mean." V2: "By quiet you loose-tusked fool! Auntie is back. I think... She says someone is out there!"
What do you do?

I'll ready a spike in my pouch, hold the tiny screw between index an thumb, and walk into the room. I'll keep my axe sheathed for what comes next.
"Greetings, fellas. Do any of you happen to know which way is the nearest access point to the surface?"

The three albino orcs are already on their feet, shortswords drawn, facing the door. Their tusks are delicately carved and notched, and look even sharper than their weapons. "Greetings tall one. How goes it? Sadly we do not. We were taking by a dungeon mist and-" one of the other orcs taps the arm of the speaker, and they stop talking. catalessi where are you in all of this?

I try not to raise an eyebrow.
"A mist, you say? Sounds like something to steer clear of." I stratch my neck. "Well, and what about, you know, goats? Would you know where I can find goats in a dungeon? My in-law expects me to join him for dinner, kind of, and I know for sure that he'd appreciate if I brought a goat."

"...goats? The horned grass-eater? Perhaps, but you," the orc takes a polite sniff "smell of a surface-walker. These would be like no goats you have seen. Buuut, if you are looking for a meal-gift, then yes, such a goat as these would be very fine."

"Very good question, tall-one. They enjoy tall places where they may skip and hop to all delight. They also shed storm-bolts when agitated, so they are easily seen from afar."

"Storm bolts, huh? Now that you mention it, I just now crossed paths with a toad-book creature that seemed to possess the same sort of lightning-shedding abilities. Is that a common theme around these parts? I wonder..."
And, having said that, Panyrus leisurely looks for a spot to finish his short rest before continuing on. Once he's sitting on the floor, taking inventory, he looks up and remembers to address the orcs: "Hope you guys don't mind. It's only for a few minutes, then I'll be on my way. I'm Panyrus, by the way."

"Nothing is common round these parts. Everything is one of a kind, and for all that, much the same." says the shorter orc wearing a bizarre necklace of sorts. It looks a little like your holy amulet, now that you take a second glance.
All three orcs blink with surprise when you say your name. "You are welcome to rest with us, Tall-One. I am-" the taller orc taps an arm again. "You may call me Speaker. You call these other two Claw and Floor."
Claw lets out a laugh, and Floor grimaces at the names they have been given. Some of the tension goes out of the room, swords are sheathed, and the orcs sit again. They are sat around a weird lantern of sorts, some kind of stone bowl that glows a dull warm red, without any sign of flame.
"What brings you here, Tall-One? Apart from the hunt for that most dangerous prey, of course. What father deserves such a mightful gift?" Speaker seems very curious in you, while Claw seems to be meditating.

Panyrus can't help but smile tenderly about the whole made up names shenanigan as it happens.
The first part of Speaker's question is simple enough. Were it not for the second part of this query, Panyrus would have addressed it plainly and without delay. That latter bit, however, appears to have sent him into a pensive mood. He takes his time before coming up with a (at first) well-composed reply: "It seems I was conjured into this underground maze, and I am not the only one to have suffered the same fate. Ultimately, I'd say there's no rhyme or reason to this: I must have tripped on a crossplanar ridge on my way back from the tavern or something. This kind of thing is not unheard of. World's a weird place." At this point the half-giant lets out a sigh. "But, then again, I've pissed off enough mean fuckers in the past that such a seemingly random occurrence might just as well turn out to be not in the least random. That wouldn't surprise me either. ((Thoughtful silence)) Wouldn't surprise me at all." . An even longer interval elapses. . "What father deserves such a mightful gift, you ask. ((half-hearted chuckle)) Certainly not a good father, by any standard. Neither good nor fatherly, you see. Impossibly powerful, nonetheless. And one who let me live, despite my past offenses against him and his people. Never quite figured that part out. Why I lived. In the end, it's not like McKayla would have given two shits about it, anyway."

Speaker nods. "The world is strange and moves in ways beyond any sight. If you care to know, I could taste a piece of your fate for you, perhaps find which way the world might move next."
Claw speaks up after you finish. "Honour, then?" all the ash-orcs nod. They know honour, and the know how that chain binds. "This McKayla. She is very lucky."
