The sobbing continues. It doesn’t sound like it’s getting any closer. What do you do?

Martha is hit by the realization when Panyrus gestures her that, and quickly closes her eyes. she then echolocates to try and hear the position of the creature and moves towards them. if that works, "well, I can 'see' you, a bit. not everybody uses only eyes to see"

Your echolocation functions fine. As far as you can tell, the next chamber contains a whole bunch of roughly human-sized figures arranged in a circle (probably?) , as well as one very large individual in the centre. You've got the time to make a few more echoes, and figure that the human-sized figures are probably made of stone.
The sobbing quietens a little bit, to more hiccups, but the figure doesn't come closer.

"I-it's the worst," agrees the creature "Everyone looks wrong, and then they look wrong, and then I try and help and it just doesn't get better. I guess I'll probably have to Go Back at some point. It was nice here though, apart from all the looking-wrong-ness."
The creature does seem to be calming down a little bit, but there's a weird tone entering their voice that you just don't like the feeling of.

You are so incredibly clenched that you fear you may need to somehow locate some prunes.

"M-maybe I can draw you a portrait?" And I start polishing the flat of my greataxe with my shirt, hoping it will work just fine as a makeshift mirror.

Mm, I'm not quite sure that would get you anything more than a dim reflection. You'd have to spend some time with a whetstone if you wanted that kind of a surface. That said, it might not be a problem: "Draw? DRAW!? W-what the hell are YOU!?" and you can hear the sound of fast heavy footsteps getting closer.

Yeah, not ideal, but far from unexpected.
Panyrus will drop his backpack in front of Martha. Unsubtly, nervously, he'll say, pointing to the bag: "Stay out of sight and be careful: there's a bag of *very slippery* lard in there."
And I'll try and put myself in the hostile's line of sight (or what I presume will be their line of sight, since I cannot quite see them yet), wait till I can make out the fuzziest moving silhouette on the flat of my axe (I'm turning my back to this hostile) and attract further attention to myself by singing:

The moment their steps feel close enough (say less than 10 feet? It's a hard gambit, don't ask for too many details) is when I start running. In my mind, I'd be running around in this room with the circle of statues, and the hostile would be on close pursuit. But please let me know if this plan doesn't exactly work out, location-wise.
I'll be singing all the while.

martha takes the bag and echolocates to have a clearer view of the situation (tho its probably not very useful for moving things) and if the creature starts running she will try to drop the lard on their path. dex save if needed ViS07PIL1d20+41d20+4

((Alright. Ok. I'm really glad that both of you are mostly blind right now, so I don't have to put too much detail into describing this scene, but let me tell you, it's hilarious))
Whatever the creature is, it's definitely chasing after you Panyrus, making weird snarling snapping sounds. "STAY STILL!" it shrieks "LET ME FIX YOU!"
However, when Martha lets out the honking sound of her echolocation, it stops. "There's... two of you? What is this? Why are you here? Why won't you leave me be if you're so wrong?"

Besides the corridor we used to get here, What other paths branch out of this room, if any?

|

Post by catalessi on Jul 3, 2020 23:27:57 GMT
yes, do i hear any other path out? orherwise its best if we just go back to where we came from (also yeah the scene sounds pretty ridicolous)

There are two other exits. One, chimney-like, that goes straight up and out, and one on the far end of the wall, but you'd be putting yourselves in severe danger if you tried to make that dash.
What do you do?

I keep running. I cut the singing and address the giant person chasing me: "Here's ((pant)) an idea. ((wheeze)) How about ((pant pant)) you let us through ((puff)) so you won't have to ((pant)) see our ugly mugs ever again ((wheeze)) if that offends your aesthetics ((coughs)) so damn much??"
Also, while repeating this running circuit, do I get to discern anything about the statues' faces and/or general build?

is the chimmey like exit near a wall or, like, in the center of the roof? if the former, Martha backs away towards it to see if there is a way to ascend, like a ladder "you just had to ask. we'll leave at once, if you so wish"
|

It's right in the centre of the roof, and probably quite hard to reach. Maybe if you piled up all the statues in the room?
The statues are all definitely statues, classically carved, and looking like they'd be quite at home in the niches you've just left. All of them however have had their eyes and much of their faces ripped off, and seem to have been sprinkled with acid at some point or another.
Unfortunately, while running laps, there's a flap... flap... and a loud thump as whatever is chasing you "cuts the corner" and lands directly in front of you. What do you do? Do you slam your eyes shut, or take a peek? You can just look at the creatures feet if you want to avoid the face.

Yeah, I've had the latter option in mind for a minute now, ever since I've started this circus. I'm going with that.
Panyrus halts before his stalker, clumsily gathering himself into a proper battle stance. Without meeting their eyes, he brandishes his two-handed axe and strikes at their kneejoint --or, if that's out of reach, their ankles.

Bummer, but also, yay: "Laqar Karamis - If you deal minimum damage with a two-handed weapon, it was a massive windup instead, and you deal +d12 damage the next round. Enemies might be able to see this attack coming."

You see greyish-greenish half-rotted skin, cruel curling talons, and... wings? Filthy feathers drag upon the stone, they seem to be soaked in some kind of vile fluid. Your swing hits nothing but air, and you catch a glimpse of startlingly long claws reaching towards your head!

since panyrus seems seriously in danger, martha raises her club and runs towards the creature, wildly swinging it at the creature (she keeps her eyes down too)

You swing your club and it sends a puff of feathers whirling, you're not quite sure you hit anything important. "Another one?" grumbles the creature, and it kicks back with one massive clawed leg at you Martha! rRizg15R1d61d6

I'm going for the leg that they're standing on. Hope to cut it off whole with the windup from my previous turn:

Alright! Between Martha's harassment and the suddenly powerful axe-blow, the creature is sent sprawling to the floor! It seems injured but the leg hasn't been chopped off. However, between your squinted eyes you can see that the head of this creature is definitely not covered in writhing snakes as you'd expect for a Gorgon. The creature is wailing in pain and fear and anger, apparently in equal measures, and it sounds like a pissed off kettle.
What do you do?
